Lucas Moura Gets Back to Brazilian National Team after Two Years

Tottenham winger Lucas Moura has been handed the opportunity to link up with Brazilian national team once again after being called up for the friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Argentina. Lucas Moura has been in the wilderness with regards to the national team front for the last couple of years. After emerging as a potential star when he was with São Paulo in the early part of the decade, he made the move to Paris St Germain in 2013 for a fee of around € 45 million. This made him as one of the most expensive players in the world back then. However, lack of regular first-team opportunities with the French outfit resulted in the player making just three substitute appearances for the national team in the last five years.

Lucas has still come up with 34 appearances for the national team since his debut in 2011, but there is no doubt that his career has stalled in the last couple of seasons. The 26-year-old is making a comeback after joining Spurs for a fee of about £ 25 million. Even though his first campaign with Spurs was relatively quiet after he made only one goal in 11 appearances, the winger has had a positive start to the 2018-19 campaign and has already come up with three goals in just 10 games. His form has been noticed by Tite, who has called him as a replacement for Gremio forward Everton, who has suffered a thigh injury.

David Luiz impressed with Maurizio Sarri’s philosophy

Chelsea defender David Luiz has been impressed with the philosophy of new Blues boss Maurizio Sarri. The Italian head coach has transformed the Blues into a title-challenging side during the opening weeks of the new Premier League season and Luiz has been impressed with the way he has involved himself with the club’s players.

Speaking to reporters, the Brazil international said: “I love his philosophy. It’s amazing. Before everything he is a great person, as a human he talks with us every single day, he enjoys what he does. He is a guy who really loves football, and it’s always special to work with people like him. With a team like Cardiff, they play physically, with a defensive style, a lot of long balls, fighting for free-kicks. It’s not easy to score one goal against them, but we scored four. We tried to keep the ball, move quickly to create the gaps and score goals.”

Jurgen Klopp won’t rush Fabinho into Liverpool action

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has stressed that he would not rush Fabinho into action following his recent recovery from a muscle problem. The Brazil international was the Reds’ first summer signing back in May and he thereafter featured for the Reds extensively during pre-season where he picked up a minor injury in the final friendly versus Napoli.

Since then, Fabinho has failed to make the matchday squad in the opening two league games for the Reds and Klopp has now called for patience with the midfielder, who is still adapting to the club’s style of play, he said: “It is about players understanding the position and who else is available as well, otherwise Fabinho would have been involved in the squad as he was in the first week. That is it. It is different football to what he is used to but he is improving already with big steps. “I can see that in the sessions and that is cool. He is used to playing at a high level in France. It is not about who we play but about how we play.”

Brazil have been largely heralded as one team that could lift the World Cup in Russia. Since Pele helped them to their first ever title in 1958, the Samba boys have grown from strength to strength. They won the titles in 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002. They were touted to lift the title for a record sixth time and they cruised to the semis only for the Germans to cause them a national embarrassment by defeating them 7-1.

This time, they are led by Tite. They would be hoping the recovering Neymar does not get injured and that the rest of the team does not get way over their heads. The Selecao have the name that startles opponents. They also have the players from Alisson to Marcelo to Philippe Coutinho to Willian to Gabriel Jesus.

Brazil will fight to get Neymar to play both at the Copa America and the Olympics

The Brazilian football confederation has vowed to fight to get Neymar to participate in both the Copa America as well as the Olympics.

Barcelona has sent a letter to the Brazil confederation where they have recommended that Neymar should be given adequate rest during the summer ahead of the start of the new season. As a result, they are asking that Neymar participates in the Olympics and not in the Copa America.

Dunga, the current Brazil manager, has stated that Neymar is an important player for his team and that he will like to have him in both the Copa America team as well as the Olympics team.

However, Neymar has proposed a solution to this issue. He has offered not to play in the group phase of the Copa America and then play as from the quarter-finals. After that, he will be leaving for the Olympics. But with the current form of Brazil, it is very likely that he will have to be in the team as from day one in the Copa America if ever they want to qualify for the quarter-finals. (more…)

Dunga has rubbished the claims that he is showing reluctance in picking those who are parts of the Italian top tier clubs.

In the Selecao squad that Dunga named yesterday for the games to be played in the coming weeks, the name of Hernanes was missing and it’s Kaka who was preferred over him.

Apart from Hernanes, the other player whose exclusion sparked a bit of surprise was Alex Sandro.

Some of the experts reckon both Hernanes as well as Sandro deserved to have found themselves in.

As per Dunga though, it is not possible for him to select everyone. He can only finalize 23 names. But, if somebody is not there, it doesn’t mean he has any grudges against him or the league that he is taking part in.

Speaking to a news channel the previous evening, the boss said, “There are talks that I am not paying attention to the players in Italy. I can assure you there is nothing like that. You see Miranda is there. Which league he plays in? Doesn’t he play for a Serie A team? And, he is one of the most vital cogs in our line up.”

“You know when you sit to finalize the squad; you can only pick a certain number of guys. So, a few would always miss out, but, they are not forgotten. I always keep in touch with all of them.”

“As far as Alex is concerned, he has got a lot of natural ability and if he continues doing the hard yards, there’s very little doubt that he will be a huge success at the international level in the time to come.”

Sandro has had the chance to feature for Brazil in only 6 games till now.
